Maintenance

We recommend you clean your coat only if necessary. Dust, sweat and sebum damage fabrics over time, but too frequent washing can be just as damaging. If you have an isolated stain, simply clean it with a damp cloth instead of washing the entire coat in a washing machine. To ensure your coat protects you from the cold for many years to come, avoid over-cleaning it.

Here’s how to wash your coat without damaging it, whether it's a synthetic- or Thindown-insulated winter coat, soft shell or rainwear.

• Wash in cold water in a front-loading washing machine.*
• Use a mild, bleach-free detergent.
• Remove the fur trim before cleaning (if applicable).
• Close the zippers and take the hood out of the collar (if applicable).
• Tumble dry all coats at low temperature, except those with Thindown insulation, which must tumble dry at medium temperature.

• Do not dry clean.
• Do not wash the fur.
• Do not bleach (never use soap or stain removers that contain bleach).
• Do not iron.
• Do not use fabric softener.
• Do not dry at high temperature.

Do not dry your coat at high temperatures since the synthetic insulation fibre will deteriorate and lose its insulating properties. Also, make sure your coat is completely dry before storing it.

Down can be machine washed or dry cleaned, as long as the coat is very clean at the end of the process. If the down filaments are clogged with dirt or dry-cleaning solvent, it will lose its swelling properties.

• Use bleach-free down specific cleaner.
• Remove fur trim before washing (if applicable).
• Always close the zippers and remove the hood from the collar (if applicable).
• Tumble dry at medium temperature, adding clean drying balls to the load to avoid down clumping. The process may take a few drying cycles. Check for clumps between each cycle, and if necessary, use your fingers to distribute the down. Make sure the coat is dry before removing it from the dryer.

Note
If your coat does not regain its original fluff, simply wash it again. Make sure it is thoroughly rinsed and completely dry after being washed. Down always regains its natural fluff when it is clean and dry.

Some fabric protectors and stain removers can stain your coat. We recommend to always test those products on a concealed area of your coat.

*You must wash your coat in a front-loading washing machine. Top-loading machines will produce worse results than a front-loading machine. Kanuk coats do not absorb water and will tend to float in top-loading machines, which results in an ineffective wash and inadequate rinsing.

• Fur must be cleaned by a specialist.
• Do not dry clean.
• Protect the fur trim from friction and rubbing (i.e. repetitive rubbing against a bag's strap that could quickly and permanently damage your fur trim).
• Even if fur is water and snow resistant, avoid getting it soaked. If the fur gets soaked, shake it off as soon as possible to remove excess water.
• Brush it occasionally to restore its volume.
• For any questions regarding repairs or maintenance, consult a professional furrier.

• Hand wash or machine wash with programming for wool.
• Do not spin or wring out.
• Do not tumble dry.
• Roll in a towel and hang.
• Once the fur is dry, brush in small bundles of hair. Use a brush with wide-spaced teeth.
