Sustainability

sustainable by design

It’s no accident our garments are so enduring. They are handcrafted locally to protect against extreme weather conditions and are, by their very nature, robust. Not only do our winter coats come with a lifetime warranty they are often passed down from one generation to the next. Unsurprisingly, they have a renown following amongst local vintage seekers. We also provide free repairs and touch ups on more than 500 coats locally each year. Our Second Life program encourages our clients to return their used Kanuk coat to us so we can donate it to those in need, and they can collect a discount on their next coat.

See, we happen to think that only thing better than recycled, is never thrown away in the first place.

OUR COMMITMENTS

CArbon neutral by 2025

Our head office and all our factories are powered by 100% renewable hydro-electricity, and we aim to be 100% carbon neutral by 2025.

LIMITING WASTE

We have made use of our vast archive of materials collected over the past 50 years in our current collections. Concurrently, we keep our loss of fabric during manufacturing at less than 5%.

RECYCLED FABRICS

50% of our current collection is made with recycled fabrics. And we are steadily increasing that percentage annually with the singular goal of only selling garments that contain recycled and organic materials in the very near future.

FUR-FREE

Our collection is entirely fur-free. The use of fur for protection against the winter elements has a long history, but with the innovations at our disposal today, the past need not dictate our future.

Kanuk and our natural world

At KANUK, we live for the outside so we have a vested interest in minimizing our impact on our precious natural world. Over the past few years, we have been quietly and conscientiously introducing eco-innovations and making essential choices about how we make our garments. We know there is always more to do, but we are proud of how far we have come.
