For more active individuals or those who live in damper climates, we still offer our renowned synthetic insulators, which conserve their insulating properties even when wet!

We also now offer the natural insulator Thindown, an innovative and highly efficient product.

CLIMASHIELD THERMO+ (Continuous fibre insulation)

Featuring a crossover network of 3.5-denier continuous fibres, THERMO+ is the most durable synthetic insulation on the market. The crossover structure of the fibres makes the lining warmer and more resistant to compression. THERMO+ is our high-loft insulation. 100% polyester. (Climashield HL 3.5-denier)

 

CLIMASHIELD COMFORT+ (Continuous fibre insulation)

Featuring a crossover network of continuous fibres, THERMO-COMFORT+ offers warmth and ease of movement. It is constructed with solid, 3-denier fibres, which enhance the suppleness of the garment. THERMO-COMFORT is our mid-loft insulation. 100% polyester. (Climashield Combat 3-denier)

THINDOWN (Down fabric)

A revolutionary innovation, Thindown is reinventing the use of down by eliminating its drawbacks and building on its advantages. Because Thindown is impeccably uniform and requires no piercing, the down will never escape from between the seams, nor will heat, making Thindown warmer than traditional down of the same weight. It is also durable and easy to maintain (machine-washable). Its composition of 85% down and 15% polyester is perfectly stabilized between two thinly woven 100% polyester layers. ThinDown is made in Italy and exclusively contains duck down feather from Italy.

Technical information

All of our fabrics are treated with a C6 fabric protector in the factory (C6 DWR, which stands for “durable water repellant”). Unlike the old C8 protectors, C6 protectors are not persistent in the environment. (C6 and C8 refer to the length of the carbon atom chain in the chemical formula of fabric protectors.)

There are two main laminate categories: hydrophilic and hydrophobic. Many companies use fabrics with hydrophilic laminates. This technology enables manufacturers to post impressive breathability numbers, but it does not offer the same level of comfort as hydrophobic laminates.

Hydrophilic laminates breathe through chemical diffusion. The membrane has no pores, but it attracts moisture, which travels through its molecules. The drawback of this technology is that a fabric must become saturated with water in order to breath. This level of moisture greatly reduces comfort. 

Hydrophobic laminates repel water. They breathe via the presence of micropores in the membrane. The heat generated by the body pushes this movement towards the garment’s exterior. The vapour molecules travel through these pores without wetting the membrane, because it is hydrophobic. This technology breathes “dry” and therefore delivers increased comfort.

Microporous coatings (like the laminates) are full of microscopic holes. These pores are large enough to dispel the vapour molecules, but too small to allow water molecules in. This is what enables the vapour from the body to escape while preventing rain from penetrating. Even when at rest, the human body emits a great deal of perspiration.
